Carbon emissions from the energy sector remained stable in 2014, unchanged from 2013. For the past 40 years, the only time that emissions stayed the same was in the early 1980’s, 1992 and 2009. The IEA says increasing the use of renewable energy in China and OECD countries, slowed down the figures in 2014. China saw an increase in energy from renewable sources like hydropower solar and wind and less burning of coal. The IEA will release additional data and analysis in a special report on energy and climate in June 2015.
