The proposal to expose more win power in Wyoming to Los Angeles spurs a new plan in Utah. Huge caverns will be constructed underground to store the power from Wyoming. The caverns will act like a battery. When the demand of electricity is low and wind is high, the air will be compressed into caverns and when the demand is high, the air will be released to drive turbines and feed the need in faraway California. The technology can solve the problem of unbalance of time between the peak of demand and supply. Compressed air battery was approved successful long time ago, but the only problem currently is that it is still too expensive to apply. Despite its high cost, compared with other electricity storage technique, energy storage is still the best choice. As the executive director of Wyoming Infrastructure Authority Drain said “Battery storage is very expensive, very inefficient. But energy storage, like compressed air storage, you can store that and not lose any energy”.
