US Department of Agriculture is investing in 540 nationwide renewable energy projects. The speaker Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said, “Investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency will continue in the home-grown energy sources and American energy independence we’ve seen in recent years.” He made the announcement in North Carolina to highlight the USDA in rural renewable energy projects, as part of Obama’s “all-of-above” energy strategy. The announcement came in the same day that President Obama announced the new executive actions to develop the solar energy nationwide further. The government’s investment on solar power projects could cut enormous amount of carbon emission every year and save businesses nearly $45 billion of energy costs. Vilsack highlighted the effort of USDA in solar technologies, saying for the whole funded projects, 240 are for solar and $5.2 million in grants and $55.3 million in loans. He also included $68 million committed to the renewable energy development in the announcement. This could be a new time for the renewable energy in rural districts.
